Do Better with Community Watch

My involvement in Community Watch began when I met the mother of a young girl who was ripped from her bedroom and I’ll spare you the details of what happened next. The story was especially troublesome because a neighbor had seen the rotten bastard lurking outside the little girl’s bedroom window.

It was this event that I based A Line In the Sand – Taking a Stand Against Crime. I produced it in 1994, and in the 10 or 12 years that followed the crime situation improved significantly. Cities across America saw reductions in crime and livability was better than it had been in years.

But over the past few years, things seem to have gotten much worse.

According to some people, something must be broken inside of me because whenever someone talks about or shows me a problem, I don’t say “Ain’t it awful.” I always wonder, “How can we fix it?”

A High Percentage of Crime is Drug-Related

The Drug-Free-Living Video Library features high-quality programs designed to educate youngsters about how dangerous using drugs can be. From methamphetamine to alcohol, our videos help them understand the truth about these often lethal substances. CHECK IT OUT.

How Can We Fix This?

It’s always been this way. We cannot rely on law enforcement alone to keep our streets, homes, businesses, and schools safe. It’s up to us. They don’t belong to them! They belong to us! It’s called ownership. They are supposed to work for us.

But we cannot do it without them and if you want them to do it without your involvement, they call that an occupying force. That’s when you give up many of your rights and ultimately your freedom.

If you are wondering if you can make a difference, the answer is absolutely. I’ve seen it over and over. It’s in the book.

I recently released a book through Amazon called Enough! I published the first edition back in 1992. Back then it was called, “Held Hostage in America. It talks about how people can take back their streets by using a system called Community Watch. It’s not driven by law enforcement. It’s community-based and details how communities can organize to make things better.

It also shows why many or even most police-driven Neighborhood Watches and other crime prevention programs do not last.

In the past, law enforcement seemed to be more willing to work with their communities. But now, with all the anti-police movements, many law enforcement agencies only do what they have to do. I’ve heard from multiple sources that law enforcement regularly will not take a proactive approach when working with the public. They do not respond to save people. Let me be clear, many agencies and officers are working very hard to do their sworn duty, but if they do not believe the public is not supporting them, you can see the results. Recruiting efforts are struggling and some departments are lowering their standards, response time is too long, and criminals have free reign. (I’ve even heard that some departments are hiring migrants who entered this country illegally.)
